The Miner County Board of Commissioners met in adjourned session April 24, 2012, in the Miner County Courthouse. Members present: Don Bowman, Pat Maroney, Roger Wentland and Voni Durant. Absent: Heath Thompson. Vice-Chairman Wentland called the meeting to order. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
Motion by Durant, seconded by Bowman to approve the agenda as amended.
The minutes of April 24th were approved.
Commissioner Maroney expressed concern as to the plans for the City of Howard to place a gravel parking lot on the west side of the west courthouse driveway. Commissioner Wentland will relay the concerns to the city.
Removal of the Scotch pine trees located in the tree belt north of the courthouse was discussed. Wentland will contact area businesses who specialize in the removal of trees for an estimate on the cost for removal.
A brief discussion was held concerning improvements that need to be made to improve the drainage around the courthouse.
Tami Moore of the Miner County Soil Conservation District presented the district’s annual report.
Highway superintendent Ron Krempges reported that the 1995 Ford pickup is in need of repair or replacement. Krempges requested to replace the pickup through SD Federal Surplus. He will continue to check with Federal Surplus for different models and styles. Other highway matters were reviewed.
Attorney Richard Ericsson appeared and made a request for the commission to release the lien against property owned by his clients. A resolution will be presented at the May 1st meeting for consideration.
The board adjourned as a board of commissioners and reconvened as a board of equalization.

Motion by Durant, seconded by Bowman and carried to authorize the director to make the clerical corrections listed above.
Motion by Bowman, seconded by Maroney and carried to authorize the Director of Equalization to make changes on the assessment rolls to reflect the qualifying applications for the freeze on assessments of dwellings of the disabled and senior citizens.
Motion by Maroney, seconded by Durant and carried to approve the annual applications for tax exempt status, as previously published in the legal newspaper.
Having no further equalization business it was motioned by Bowman and seconded by Durant to end equalization for 2012. Motion carried.

The board reconvened as a board of commissioners.
The board reviewed the letter of resignation of Lanny Klinkhammer from the ambulance board and ambulance volunteer. Motion by Bowman, seconded by Maroney and carried to table the letter until the May 1st meeting.
