The Miner County Board of Commissioners met in regular session March 20, 2012, in the Miner County Courthouse. Members present: Don Bowman, Pat Maroney, Roger Wentland, Voni Durant and Heath Thompson. Absent: none. Chairman Thompson called the meeting to order. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. Motion by Maroney, seconded by Wentland and carried to approve the agenda as amended.
Jerry Adler representing the Miner County Recreation Association and the Canova Summer Youth Recreation made a request for financial support for both organizations. Motion by Wentland, seconded by Bowman and carried to grant $1500 to Miner Co Recreation Association and $1200 to the Canova Summer Youth Recreation in support of youth programs.
Adler also briefly discussed the mosquito control program.
East Dakota Water Development Association manager Jay Gilbertson and area director John Weidler reviewed activities within the district. Projects which the district has supported within Miner County include grants to the Miner County Conservation District, support for the City of Howard engineering study for lagoon expansion, and funding for capping wells.
Highway Superintendent Ron Krempges reported on road conditions, loader purchase, and a request for the emergency management exercise to use a county tanker.
Motion by Bowman, seconded by Maroney and carried to authorize the auditor to make operating transfers as provided for in 2012 budget as follows: Dispatch, $25,000; Emergency Management, $10,000.
Motion by Wentland, seconded by Bowman and carried to accept the proposal of Connecting Point for BackupAssit Exchange Mailbox and for the installation there of, $533.00.
Carmyn Egge staff assistant from Senator Tim Johnson’s office gave an update of congressional issues.
Motion by Durant, seconded by Maroney and carried to enter into executive session at 10:43 to discuss personnel reviews. Returned to regular session at 11:20.
Miner County 4-H Advisor Maria Feldhaus presented the Memorandum of Understanding between SDSU Extension and Miner County. Motion by Maroney, seconded by Wentland and carried to authorize Chairman Thompson to sign the agreement.
