The Miner County Board of Commissioners met in regular session September 2, 2014, in the Miner County Courthouse. Members present: Roger Wentland, Don Bowman, Garrett Gassman, Alex Protsch, and Voni Durant. Absent: none. Chairman Wentland called the meeting to order. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. Motion by Protsch, second by Gassman and carried to approve the agenda as amended.
The Auditor’s account with the County Treasurer showed an August 31, 2014 balance of $4,038,832.08 in all state, county, civil, school, and trust accounts.
The minutes of August 19th meeting were approved.
The board acknowledge receipt of the sheriff & dispatch reports for July and correspondence from the US Dept. of Interior-Fish & Wildlife Service concerning the northern long-eared bat as endangered.
Future courthouse grounds upgrades (lighting along the front sidewalk and lighting for the flag pole) were discussed. Price quotes will be obtained before further action is taken.
The 2015 Provisional Budget hearing was held as advertised. No additional persons were present for the hearing. No changes were made to the published provisional budget. Final adoption will be on September 23rd.
Treasurer Debbie Eggert met with the commission to obtain guidance as to several properties that are available for tax deed which are currently inhabited by the owners. Commissioners instructed the treasurer to proceed with the tax deed process.
Highway Superintendent Ron Krempges reported on the one vehicle accident that involved the 2002 Mack truck and pup owned by Miner County. No injuries were sustained. The accident occurred last week south of Fedora. The claim has been sent to Claims Associates for review.
Motion by Gassman, seconded by Durant to declare the 2006 Caterpillar Motorgrader as surplus and advertise for sale. The board appointed Dan Dawson, David Clark, and Shane Davids to appraise the motorgrader.
Krempges also reported on discussion with landowners adjacent to 24356 435th Ave. concerning the possible addition of an 18” culvert at that location. Commissioners instructed Krempges to proceed with the project and to add an additional culvert at the next approach to the south of that location.
Wentland reviewed the necessary work for seeding the lot north of the courthouse. The highway department will assist with completing this project.
Brad Stangohr of Ulteig reported on the parking lot project. Concerns from the public with the drainage of the water from the parking lot were addressed. Stangohr reiterated that the size of the parking lot was not increased. The drainage from the area has not changed with the upgrade of the parking lot. The drainage will continue as it had been prior to the project.
