SPECIAL MEETING
The Miner County Board of Commissioners met in special session on May 18, 2022 in the commission room of the Miner County Courthouse. Members present: Alex Protsch, Tom Reisch, Kari Jo Carlson, Kathy Faber and Joe Bechen. The flag pledge was recited. Several members of the public were also present. Chairman Protsch called the meeting to order. Protsch explained the posted agenda that included the Howard Hotel & Convention Center. This matter is placed on all regular agendas to allow Tami Severson, the controller for that building, the ability to report issues with the building at each commission meeting. There is no intent to discuss the Howard Hotel and Convention Center at this meeting. It was moved by Reisch, seconded by Bechen and carried to approve the agenda with the removal of the topic of Howard Hotel & Convention Center. Members of the public left the meeting excluding Eric Rentschler.
The board considered the request of Barry Callies to utilize the 4-H grounds for a swine show. Auditor Connor informed the board she had received information from insurance agent Curt Neises that the county is covered for these types of events but that coverage does not provide insurance for those hosting the events. It was moved by Bechen, seconded by Carlson and carried unanimously to authorize Callies to use the 4-H grounds contingent on him signing the “Hold Harmless Agreement” and provide proof of insurance to the county.
It was moved by Faber, seconded by Carlson and carried to enter into executive session (SDCL 1-25-2 (1) at 6:08 p.m. to review custodial applications. Eric Rentschler left the meeting.
The board returned to regular session at 7:04. It was moved by Bechen, seconded by Faber and carried unanimously to hire Lori Kiehl at the rate of $18.74/hour.
Having no further business, the meeting adjourned to June 9th. Dated this 18th day of May, 2022.
